News for My NWACC Class

I am wearing the Swedish crown for brides in this photo.
A brooch is on the dress, just below my neck.
The brooch is a gift from my husband.

Dear Friends,

I have been thinking about class.  Last week we all made earrings, and hopefully continued with new ideas for more earrings.  Wednesday we will make necklaces, pendants, and station necklaces.  It might help to bring abrooch to class to give us more ideas for embellishment.

Often one idea will help us do themes with pearls, earrings, pendants and later a bracelet.

One idea can lead to many pieces.  I often went to elegant second hand stores, purchased a necklace, and used the pattern to make earrings and necklaces in a theme of  birthstones for my granddaughters and daughter in law for birthdays or Christmas presents.

The time spent choosing the colors to match may also be carried to making a set to match for an outfit you already have, or bridesmaid dresses or any special occasion.

The Garnet - Named for the Pomegranate Fruit - January Birthstone

January

By her who in this month is born
No gem save garnets should be worn;
They will ensure her constancy,
True friendship, and fidelity.

Garnets, though gorgeous in red come in almost all colors, and are even more well known in Green, and tsavorite garnet, present in crown jewels of England, and yellow spessersite garnets just a shade darker than most citrine stones, and far more valuable. The Mozambique garnets from Africa are known as darker and< richer than other reds found in gems like rubies, a form of corundum.  Those born in January will be more aware of garnets of red.  Gems from the earth are a reminder of the flood, layers of rocks, and God's will for us to enjoy all of his earth.  Using beads to express our gratitude to God for our wondrous creation and thanks to him for supplying us with his great glory, are ways to express our thanks to him for his great creation.
